      Announcements

    HP-Plus (HP+)

The OmniSTAR-VBS ('Virtual Base Station') and the OmniSTAR-HP ('High Performance') services are well-known already. At this time OmniSTAR introduces now also its OmniSTAR-XP ('Extended Performance') service.

All three data services are broadcast by L-band satellite transmissions via a network of geo-stationery satellites and have been developed to satisfy the need for high accuracy positioning systems and services specifically for land-based applications.

OmniSTAR-HP/XP is the latest dual frequency GPS augmentation solution in the OmniSTAR family of High Performance services and delivers decimetre accuracy utilising two independent positioning technologies: Network Technology (OmniSTAR-HP) and the Precise Orbits & Clocks Technology (OmniSTAR-XP).

The latter technology is based on a separate network of dual frequency reference stations, which enables us to generate information with regard to precise satellite orbits and satellite clock offsets. By correcting these measurements, accurate positioning results are valid worldwide, also outside Fugro's network coverage area. Inside our regional network coverage areas OmniSTAR combines these 2 technologies into HP-Plus (HP+), thereby increasing the performance and robustness of HP.

Outside our Network coverage areas we provide the XP-only solution. Thanks to the Precise Orbits & Clocks Technology (our new decimetre accurate service) OmniSTAR-XP is now also available in remote areas, outside the OmniSTAR network such as Kazakhstan, Siberia, Sahara, the Maldives, and many other areas.

For details please contact our Sales Team.

    Did you know?

      - New DGPS Satellite Service for Australia:
The new Satellite OCSAT, which will cover the Pacific Ocean including the East of Australia and New Zealand is already transmitting the OmniSTAR broadcast. In July 2006 the OCSAT global beam will replace the Optus spotbeam satellite

    - Rental possibilities of receivers:
If you are in need for OmniSTAR equipment for a precise short-term project it could be a good option to rent OmniSTAR equipment including data logger. We have several rental receivers with software and data loggers available for various applications.
If you are interested please contact your Sales Manager.

      VBS2 Update

OmniSTAR has released a new version of its VBS algorithm to GPS hardware manufacturers that have embedded OmniSTAR technology in their receivers

    New VBS integrated firmware

    - The advantages of this new software version are improved handling of corrections with high age of corrections and an automatic selection of the best OmniSTAR satellite beam based on the location of the receiver.

    - Metronome function: OmniSTAR has introduced the metronome function, which gets activated when a solution is older than 17 seconds. At that moment a new RTCM message with more recent satellite information is sent to the receiver.

    - Improvement for Airborne applications:
The new firmware gives better performance at higher altitudes. VBS2 features dynamic modelling of tropospheric conditions in relation to the actual height of the aircraft.

    - Mandatory switchover to VBS2: In one year (1st March 2007) all receivers will need to have switched from VBS1 to VBS2. By then VBS1 will no longer be available. We recommend that you switch over before 2007. To proceed you first need to download the new firmware from either the OmniSTAR or the manufacturer websites. All receivers will need to be reactivated after the firmware upgrade

    - Refer to the table below to see which receivers support VBS2.

    NovAtel DSP

NovAtel Propak LB users working with OmniSTAR are strongly advised to use DSP 1.004 instead of DSP 1.101. Although DSP 1.101 gives support to the Canadian CDGPS service it does not provide optimal results when used with the OmniSTAR service.

ViewAll Pocket PC software for the 8300HP and 8400HP

In order to better support in the field customers with OmniSTAR capable hardware, we have developed ViewAll.
This software runs on pocket PC based handheld computers and shows position and quality parameters. It allows storage of points in CSV (Comma Separated), XML and Google Earth KML format.
The package supports English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Russian. If you would like to try ViewAll for Trimble, NovAtel, Topcon receivers, please send an email to

Get to know an OmniSTAR colleague (Nicole Leclercq) better

How long have you been working for OmniSTAR BV?

[NL] I joined the OmniSTAR team three years ago. As Sales Coordinator, I am responsible for the internal sales activities. Our sales managers are frequently out on business trips; therefore OmniSTAR needs someone in the office to help customers with their sales requests. I answer customers' enquiries and check whether my reply is followed by an order. When I am not in the office, I travel to fairs abroad and meet with customers to inform them about our products. This provides me with a better understanding of our customer needs. I speak 5 languages, which is an advantage for a company offering services to customers all over the world. I also ensure that all sales processes follow ISO standards and perform an audit for OmniSTAR BV once a year.

What do you like best about your job?

[NL] I mostly enjoy having contact with our customers. I really look forward to meeting them personally after all the talks over the phone. However, I can't travel that often because I also have quite a busy personal life with lots of hobbies.

    What kind of hobbies?

I sing in musicals, dance, act and write (preferably scary) screenplays.

Intergeo-East... emerging GIS markets in Eastern Europe

In support of our emerging GIS markets, OmniSTAR was pleased to participate for the first time at the 'Intergeo-East' event held this year in Belgrade (23.02 -24.02).

Eastern Europe is developing rapidly and is therefore in need of bilateral and EU projects to support the development of government structures and market economies. This event is therefore a valuable vehicle enabling us to maintain local contacts and to develop sales and support channels for OmniSTAR related services and applications across the region. We received a great deal of interest and the large number of visitors welcomed at the OmniSTAR stand reflected the range of professional and academic organisations involved in GIS technologies.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizers for a successful event, and all those who took the time to stop by and learn more of our products, services and business plans for the region.
